Update: 2024 Community Service Scholarship Winners Announced
This marks the 36th year of the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival Community Service Scholarship Program for graduating seniors of Japanese descent. Administered by the San Francisco Nikkei Lions Club, the program awards two $2,500 scholarships to deserving high school graduates going to college. The recipients have shown through their application packet a high degree of empathy for their community and a willingness to spend the time extending themselves to address the needs of their community. These two students have accomplished extraordinary academic records in their school years in addition to their willingness to “serve”.
ELIGIBILITY: Applicant must be a graduating senior of Japanese American descent at an accredited high school with a grade point average minimum of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0. The applicant should be actively involved in her or his local community.
AWARDS: Students will be awarded scholarships on the basis of commitment to their community, written essays, academic achievement, and personal character. Two winners will each receive $2,500 cash. Winners will participate in various Cherry Blossom Festival activities, including the Cherry Blossom Festival Opening Ceremony on Saturday, April 13, 2024, 2:45 pm, at the Peace Plaza Stage, Japantown, San Francisco.
The Nikkei Lions Club of San Francisco administers the Cherry Blossom Festival Scholarship Program for the Cherry Blossom Festival. Scholarships winners will be asked to provide a photograph to be used for the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival website and the media as requested.
