This marks the 36th year of the Northern California Cherry Blossom Community Service Scholarship. The program is for graduating seniors of Japanese descent. Administered by the SF Nikkei Lions, the program awards two $2,500 scholarships to deserving high school seniors going to college. The winners will be awarded at the George Yamasaki, Jr. (Peace Plaza) Stage on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 2:45 PM.
Lilah Ueda is currently attending West Campus High School in Sacramento with a 4.25 GPA. She’s planning to attend UC San Diego majoring in Business Economics and Mathematics. Aside from being an ambassador for the Girls Scouts and playing first violin with the Sacramento Youth Symphony, Lilah also helps teach at Jan Ken Po Gakko which aims to educate everyone about Japanese American culture and history. Lilah is currently learning Cantonese and French.
Mia Yasutake is currently attending Folsom High School in Folsom with a 4.27 GPA. She’s planning to attend Oregon State University majoring in Kinesiology. Aside voluminous hours of volunteering for the community, Mia is an avid and competitive softball player. She has also received numerous academic awards such as a National Merit Scholar and cultural achievements such as National Hispanic Recognition. Mia loves to read and is learning Spanish.
