Known for providing traditional Japanese performances and cultural art exhibits, The Center (formerly Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Northern California), is one of the Festival’s major indoor venues, located at 1840 Sutter Street in Japantown.

The Center provides spaces to display exquisite examples of crafts — ikebana (flower arrangement), kimekomi ningyo (wooden Mataro dolls), shishu (embroidery), shodo (Japanese calligraphy), and washi ningyo (intricately detailed 3D Japanese paper dolls). The venue will also host Japanese dance and music performances! Visitors will be surrounded by authentic performances of both classical and folk dances in traditional costumes. For music, both classical and modern pieces are performed on traditional Japanese instruments, such as the koto and shamisen. Refer to the schedule for the list of performers.
